OAKA

An Asian supermarket and a place to grab food is OAKA. There are three different stores around Glasgow, one being in George Street, the closest to central, another situated by St. George's Cross subway station, and one in Kelvinhaugh Street, in the West End of Glasgow. I recently went to OAKA on George Street.

Specializing in South-East Asian cuisine, OAKA offers a range of both fresh, frozen and cooked food. From instant noodles to hand made dumplings cooked to order, OAKA has something for anyone who loves Asian food. They also stock a variety of authentic snacks and drinks not found in your typical supermarket, perfect for people looking to expand their flavour profile.

The store is right by the University of Strathclyde, which is perfect for students to grab food between classes while on a budget. There is a wide range of different instant noodles as well. Also, there is a selection of fresh sushi to go and a broad drinks selection. These range from fizzy drinks such as Fanta to Asian soft drinks. For the Little moons enthusiasts, there is a large freezer section with a range of different flavours!

The street food menu offers various options to chose from. Step by step, choosing the portion size and then the base which are rice, ramen noodles and udon noodles, and choosing a topping between chicken and Pork and beef. There are also vegetarian and vegan options to choose from too.

I went to Oaka for a quick lunch with some friends between our classes, and we got our orders very quickly with friendly service. I ordered a Teriyaki Chicken with rice and a Bao Bun which I had not tried before. I got the "Char Siu Bao" which has bbq pork and hoisin sauce in it. The Teriyaki Chicken was delicious and had a lot of flavor. Personally, I found the Bao Bun a little dry but it was still pretty good.

I would definitely recommend going to OAKA for authentic good food to go and stocking up on snacks!
